Social Skills Groups

We know that varied treatment options may benefit your child. As such we offer social skills groups as another treatment option.

Children will be grouped based upon age, strengths, and needs.  Certified Special Education teacher, Stacey O’Keefe, will run all Social Skills groups.

Groups will address:

  • conversing with peers;
  • nonverbal interaction/body language;
  • personal space awareness;
  • playing with peers; and,
  • any additional social skills deficits.

Activities may include, but are not limited to tabletop games, role playing, music and movement, arts and crafts, LEGO building, and more!

When will groups meet?
Social Skills groups will meet on Thursday evenings between 5:45 and 7:00 pm.  Start and end time will be determined based on groupings.

How long will sessions last?
Group sessions will last 30 minutes.

Do I need to stay with my child or can I leave?
You may choose to stay with your child or leave for the duration of the session.  This may depend on your child’s reaction to you leaving or staying.  We can work together to determine what is best for each child.

What will I take away from each session?
Each week, your child will leave with a summary of the skill(s) worked on during that session.  This summary will also include recommendations for how to work on the skill(s) at home.

How will I know how my child is doing?
At the end of the 5-week session, an individualized report will be written regarding your child’s progress.  It will also include recommendations for how to work on skill(s) at home and some feedback about any next steps you and your family might want to consider.
